MISSION
The means is as important as the end. Working Title Theatre Company fosters a community of artists to help create new and exciting work that reflects contemporary society. We seek to challenge each other and our audiences, push the boundaries of theatre, and cultivate the new theatrical voice.
HISTORY
Formerly associated with (known as) The Factory NYC, Ray and Rebecca created Working Title Theatre Co. in 2015 while working together at the Lucille Lortel Theatre and organizing play readings by young playwrights in Queens. What began with writing one short play a week (Play-A-Week) evolved into full-length readings, production workshops, and open calls for writers looking for feedback. WT Theatre hopes to continue this tradition while expanding to full productions this summer.
In addition to theatre, Rebecca and Ray--both having a strong affinity for stand-up--reached out to emerging comics and began hosting free stand-up nights on a bi-monthly basis at Westbeth Community Center in Greenwich Village.
Rebecca Crigler (Co-Founder) is a producer, performer and writer based in New York City. Producing credits include: The Surgeon and Her Daughters, The Convent of Pleasure, and Pass Over (associate producer, Cherry Lane Theatre); A Sunnyside Mixtape (executive producer); Mike Birbiglia: Thank God For Jokes and Neal Brennan 3 Mics (associate producer/company manager, Lynn Redgrave Theater). New York acting credits include: Devin in Placebos Dress for Comfort (Manhattan Rep.); Madame Rosepettle in Oh Dad, Poor Dad… (Gruber Space); and Ned Blunt in The Rover (Loewe Theatre). Rebecca’s play Motel 60 received a production at Access Theater in May 2016.
Ray Yamanouchi (Co-Founder) is a Hunter College graduate with a degree in film and theatre. He has written numerous short plays and four full-length plays (Mercy Killing Kids, It’s Our Kitchen, Tha Chink-Mart, and Impact) which have been workshopped all around NYC. Tha Chink-Mart was a semi-finalist for the 2016/17 New Dramatists Princess Grace Award. He is a member of Mission to (dit)Mars’ Propulsion Lab and Working Title Theatre Co. Playwrights Collective. He currently works at the Lucille Lortel Theatre when he isn’t at the local bar.
